You smell like the ocean
The ocean you live on
Does it beckon your presence down to its shore?
Under the stars you made your own way
You followed the twilight into the swell
The lap of the waves tempted you further
Ever away from the arms of the shore
Mythic tales of mermaids enticed you below
The surface to where shrewd Neptune impales
All the dark creatures onto his spear and
Leaves them to drown on the pale ocean floor
You swam for the drifting forest of seaweed and
Entered the path to where the moon lights the sea
Until whispering sirens floated before you and
Enchanted you with songs of lost love and lore
Lost in the dirge tired and heavy
You slept on the current that delivered you down
Into the mouth that summoned your dreams and
Trapped them beneath the pale ocean floor
You swam with the sharks that defended the crevice
Deep in the caves you hunted and scored but
In the abyss the dreams became twisted
Brutalized and smashed back onto the shore
You smell like the ocean
Here in the dark
I can still hear them murmur
The shards on the shore
